Mill Green has a great reputation for Ladies’ golf in the Hertfordshire area. We asked some of our members what they think makes the club so appealing, and the response was unanimous.

“The people!” was the overwhelming response, which of course is the cornerstone of any great club. The membership at Mill Green are extremely friendly and welcoming, there’s a great pathway for beginner ladies to progress from our shorter Par 3 Golf Course onto the Main Course. There is great support from the current Lady members who have been through the same process.

The Professional Team, led by Golf Development Professional Andrew Simmonds, offer new golfers the opportunity to start playing on the golf course straight away. The three programmes offered – “Get Golfing Guaranteed”, “Move to the Big Course” and “Get your First Handicap” offer new Lady golfers the perfect pathway to learn the game and along the way they are invited to events that the Coaching Team put on in order to meet other new members and integrate them into the club.

Our current members know the feelings that new golfers are going through, nervousness and sometimes feeling slightly intimidated, and they make the effort to make anyone new feel at ease in the clubhouse and included through invites to social events that are put on, next up is a fun Barn Dance evening!

“There’s no discrimination towards women here, we have the same playing rights as the men and are equally respected.” The sections at Mill Green integrate well, with the senior’s section being a mixed section that women and men take part in together.

Another factor is that the golf course is very easy walking, and drains well which makes it more accessible to the more mature lady member, as well as being challenging enough for the single figure handicap ladies that play here. Ellen Hume, our Ladies Course Record Holder and lowest handicap player, is off to the US this year to study on a golf scholarship. Ellen has been a member since she was 11, working with Matt Spencer regularly to help improve her performances.

Mill Green attracts a younger crowd than some of the other local courses, with players enjoying the buzz of the clubhouse, and the competition that is available at all ability levels.

The future of Ladies Golf at Mill Green is in good hands with the introduction of the newest member of the Coaching Team, Zara Houchin, is continuing to introduce new players to the game as well as offering specific ladies clinics!

Come to Mill Green for a free round of golf and see what the buzz is about!
